War Amputee Help Open Organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals who have experienced limb loss due to conflict. We focus on facilitating access to comprehensive medical care, cutting-edge prosthetics, and rehabilitative services. Our commitment to collaboration drives us to connect the best international practices with the growing needs of Ukrainian hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

We currently have two active projects:

-
Global Medical Network Project for Comprehensive Rehabilitation Support
This initiative seeks to establish partnerships between world-renowned medical institutions and hospitals across Ukraine. By sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources, we aim to improve surgical procedures, prosthetic services, and post-operative care for war amputees. Our goal is to foster sustainable relationships that continue to benefit patients long after initial collaborations end. In tandem with our global partnerships, we work directly with Ukrainian rehabilitation centers to develop advanced physical and occupational therapy programs. We strive to equip each facility with updated technologies, modern treatment protocols, and training opportunities for local healthcare professionals. Ultimately, we want to ensure every amputee has access to the highest level of care, close to home. -
Specialized Care in the US for Complex Cases
In some situations, Ukrainian amputees face particularly complex or difficult-to-manage conditions. When local medical professionals encounter challenges or uncertain prognoses, we work to bring these individuals to leading medical institutions in the United States. By providing access to top-tier specialists, advanced surgical techniques, and cutting-edge prosthetic solutions, we strive to give each patient the best possible outcome. The experience also creates a valuable knowledge exchange: Ukrainian healthcare providers gain insight into innovative treatments, while US experts learn from the realities of conflict-related trauma.

Through these two projects, War Amputee Help Open Organization is building a powerful support system—one that unites international medical leaders, local hospitals, and compassionate donors. We invite individuals, corporations, and philanthropic organizations to join our mission. Your support will help us give amputees renewed independence, mobility, and hope for a brighter future.

Project 2

Establish International Partnerships
-
Identifying World-Class Institutions:
We research and reach out to leading hospitals, universities, and specialized rehabilitation centers around the globe—particularly those with proven expertise in trauma care, prosthetics, and advanced surgical techniques. By carefully matching the specific needs of Ukrainian healthcare facilities with the expertise of international counterparts, we ensure that each partnership delivers maximum impact.
-
Facilitating Collaborative Research & Training:
-
Joint Workshops and Conferences: We organize virtual and in-person events where surgeons, prosthetists, therapists, and administrators from both Ukraine and partner institutions can share best practices and cutting-edge research.
-
Telemedicine and Remote Mentorship: We enable real-time collaborations through secure online platforms, allowing international experts to advise on complex cases and guide local teams even when travel is not possible.
-
Technical and Financial Assistance: In addition to making introductions, we help secure necessary funding and donate medical equipment. This empowers local rehabilitation centers to implement new techniques and sustain them long-term.
-
Ensuring Sustainable Outcomes:
-
Long-Term Relationship Building: We do more than coordinate one-time trainings. By cultivating ongoing professional relationships between local Ukrainian staff and their international counterparts, we create a continuous knowledge exchange loop.
-
Customized Implementation Plans: Each Ukrainian center has unique needs. We work closely with both sides to develop tailored programs that integrate modern medical standards into existing systems—ensuring seamless adoption and enduring impact.
-
Follow-Up & Assessment: We consistently monitor progress, gather feedback, and adjust strategies. This iterative approach ensures the partnerships remain responsive to evolving medical needs and maintain high-quality care for amputees.
-
Expanding Global Awareness & Support:
-
Engaging Philanthropic Partners: By spotlighting success stories and tangible patient outcomes, we inspire individuals, corporations, and charitable organizations worldwide to join our efforts and contribute to a stronger global support network.
-
Building Consensus Through Advocacy: We advocate at international conferences and policy forums for better recognition of war-related amputation needs, encouraging more institutions to participate in collaborative programs.
-
Delivery of Modern Prosthetic Parts: We work tirelessly to obtain and organize the shipment of innovative prosthetic components, ensuring that rehabilitation centers can meet the rising demand for high-quality prostheses among wounded soldiers.
Some Ukrainian amputees require highly specialized care that may not yet be available locally due to the complexities of their injuries or the limitations of medical resources in conflict-affected regions. Our Specialized Care in the US for Complex Cases initiative is designed to address these challenges by connecting such patients with the world’s leading medical institutions and specialists in the United States.
Key Components of the Program
-
Identifying Complex Cases:
-
We collaborate with Ukrainian hospitals and rehabilitation centers to identify patients whose conditions are beyond the current capabilities of local medical teams.
-
These cases may involve multiple amputations, severe bone and tissue damage, nerve injuries, or complications that pose challenges to traditional treatment methods.
-
Our team works with local doctors to evaluate each patient’s condition, ensuring that candidates for the program will benefit from advanced care abroad.
-
-
Partnering with Leading US Medical Institutions:
-
We establish relationships with top-tier hospitals, prosthetic research centers, and rehabilitation clinics across the United States.
-
These institutions provide access to advanced surgical techniques, state-of-the-art prosthetic technologies, and cutting-edge rehabilitation protocols.
-
Partnering facilities are carefully selected based on their expertise in treating complex trauma cases and their willingness to contribute to a global humanitarian effort.
-
-
Facilitating Patient Transfer:
-
Logistics and Coordination: We handle all aspects of the patient transfer, including medical documentation, travel arrangements, and visa processing.
-
Funding Support: Through donor contributions, we ensure that the costs of surgery, prosthetics, rehabilitation, and travel are covered, alleviating financial burdens on the patients and their families.
-
Medical Escorts: In critical cases, we provide specialized escorts, such as trauma nurses or doctors, to accompany patients during transit.
-
-
Access to Advanced Treatments:
-
Patients receive personalized treatment plans designed to address their unique medical challenges.
-
Advanced prosthetics, including robotic or bionic limbs, are tailored to fit the patient's specific needs, ensuring optimal functionality and comfort.
-
Cutting-edge surgical techniques, such as nerve reconstruction, osseointegration (direct attachment of prostheses to bone), or reconstructive procedures, are utilized to achieve the best outcomes.
-
-
Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building:
-
Observational Opportunities for Ukrainian Doctors: Ukrainian medical professionals often accompany their patients to observe treatments and gain firsthand experience with advanced techniques.
-
Workshops and Training: Partnering US institutions host workshops and training sessions for Ukrainian specialists, focusing on the latest in prosthetic technology, trauma care, and rehabilitation.
-
Cross-Cultural Learning: US experts gain insight into conflict-related injuries and their unique challenges, broadening their knowledge and enriching global medical practice.
-
-
Follow-Up and Continuity of Care:
-
After receiving treatment in the US, patients return to Ukraine with detailed follow-up plans to ensure continuity of care.
-
Ukrainian rehabilitation centers, often supported by our organization, provide ongoing physical therapy, adjustments to prosthetics, and psychological support.
-
Our team remains in contact with patients and their local doctors to monitor progress and address any challenges.
